The City of Southaven’s newest athletic complex boasts seven full-size soccer fields featuring North Bridge Bermuda grass and Musco lighting for evening games. The complex hosts Southaven recreational and competitive soccer tournaments as well as summer adult leagues.

Snowden Grove Park is the nation’s largest youth baseball facility, and it also features a state-of-the-art 8-field Greenbrook park for softball players. Southaven has several other sports facilities, including the BankPlus Sports Center designed especially for indoor batting practice.

Musselwhite credits the success of Snowden Grove and other amenities in Southaven to the community’s tourism tax, which he is pushing for DeSoto County legislators to renew. He says the city has spent about $14.5 million on amenities using the tax, and it will not be a burden to local taxpayers because much of the money comes from people who live in other parts of Mississippi.

The award-winning facility has hosted the NABF World Series, USSSA World Series, Dizzy Dean World Series, and numerous competitive and recreational baseball tournaments.

The new senior center and the upgrades at the baseball complex are being paid for by Southaven’s Penny For Your Parks tourism tax, which Musselwhite says has been an economic driver for the city.
