Latimer Lake Park
Recreation area with fishing & trails plus tennis courts, baseball fields & a disc-golf course. Stop at the bread store on Stateline, east of Greenbrook Pkwy, and get what they call pet food (older bread). The kids love to feed the fish here.
Living near Horn Lake Middle School is easy with all the activities available. For those who prefer being indoors, there are many local gyms including Max Fitness. A great post ahead.
Parks & Trails
Almost half of Horn Lake’s parks have walking trails, and many of them also have playgrounds and fishing areas. The city also has a disc golf course, a skate park, and lots of open space for playing sports.
Located in the heart of DeSoto County, Horn Lake is a family-friendly community that offers excellent schools. The area’s public school system is one of the largest and most highly rated in the state, with many opportunities for gifted students to explore their talents and potential.
One of the town’s most unique attractions is the Octagonal House, which was built as a wedding gift by Dr. Nathanial Raines to his new bride in 1844. Other notable historical sites include the Gayoso Farm, which once produced Golden Guernsey milk for Memphis hotels and was a popular stop for tourists.
The area is also home to several museums and historic districts, including the DeSoto Arts Center. Other local points of interest include the Arkansas Post National Memorial and Natchez Trace Parkway.
Playgrounds
Enjoy family fun on the playgrounds at Latimer Lake Park or a short walk on the trails. Pack a lunch and picnic in the pavilion or try Memphis Burger Company’s signature “burnt ends melt,” combining lusciously long smoked brisket ends with caramelized onions and Cheddar on Texas toast, served with tangy-sweet MBC sauce.
Several national forests are within an easy drive from Horn Lake, including the Ozark and St. Francis National Forests and Holly Springs National Forest. They offer camping, hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
Located in the heart of southern Mississippi, the county is also home to the nation’s largest youth baseball complex at Snowden Grove Park and nine additional baseball fields at Greenbrook Park. Indoor batting practice is available at BankPlus Sports Center in Olive Branch. Horn Lake’s three lakes provide recreational opportunities along with a golf course, four lighted tennis courts, and a soccer field. Disc Golf Course
For a more relaxing and active way to spend the day, try playing a game of disc golf at Latimer Lake Park. The park’s scenic landscape makes it the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely game of disc golf with friends or family.
The park also boasts a variety of other recreational facilities, including a nature walking trail, four lighted tennis courts, and a volleyball court. There are also nine baseball fields, two soccer fields, and a football field as well as three lakes and a playground.
The park’s proximity to the Natchez Trace Parkway and the Arkansas Post National Memorial give visitors a chance to explore the area’s rich history. The Natchez Trace Parkway also includes the Fort Pillow State Historic Site, which marks the site of one of the most bloody battles during the Civil War.
Baseball Fields
With a growing community and lots of parks to choose from, Horn Lake is a great place for families to find their new home. Located just minutes from Memphis to the north and Hernando to the south, it offers a country respite with southern charm and family-friendly amenities.
The town of Horn Lake has 15 parks, including lighted tennis courts and volleyball courts, nature walking trails, football and baseball fields, a playground, a disc golf course, a 20-hole golf course, and lakes for fishing. There are also a number of recreational activities, like the Dizzy Dean All-Stars Smokin’ Bat Challenge tournament that is held in June for ages 7,8,9, and 10 year age groups.
In addition, there are numerous sports complexes in the area such as First Tennessee Fields in Southaven and Greenbrook Park, plus an indoor batting practice facility at BankPlus Sports Center in Olive Branch. First Tennessee Fields, which holds multiple baseball tournaments each weekend from spring to fall, was the 23rd-ranked tourist attraction in the Memphis region last year based on visitor spending.
